Physical Science 3rd  quarter Extra Credit Projects

You may select one of the following options to do as an extra credit project. You may select only one. You may work in groups (including people from other classes), or you may work individually. All extra credit projects are due by Thursday March 24th, 2005. You must sign up with Miss DeVries by Friday, March 18th, 2005. If you do not sign up, your project will not be accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

  1. Ever been to the Center of the Earth? No, of course not—But Jules Verne wrote an amazing adventure story about such a trip, called Journey to the Center of the Earth. Miss DeVries has a few copies, and you might be able to borrow one from a sophomore who read it last year and there is always the library. If you can’t find a copy, let Miss DeVries know, and she can order you one. Once you have this great book in your hands, read it—yes read it—cover to cover. After reading it, make a comparison between Verne’s theories and our modern day theories. Compare and contrast the adventure in the book, and what it is like in real life to take such a journey. Show your findings in whatever way you think is appropriate—video, poster, story, or skit. Be creative and have fun!
  2. Fancy yourself a comedian? Good—Create a scientifically relevant (and funny) comic strip. It must be displayable.
  3. Creative is thy name? Sweet! Create your own fictionalized version of a Journey to the center of the Earth. Make a video or write a short story. Be sure to include lots of good scientific facts, but also feel free to add some creative embellishes and lots of cool action.
  4. Feeling under the Weather? So, get out from it and think about going to a another countryJ  We all know how Weather is a part of our lives here in Michigan—But how does Weather affect lives in other countries with different climates, seasons etc. Select a country (no two groups may choose the same country), conduct research on the relationship between weather and life in this country. Creatively present your findings—A skit, a video, a poster, -- the more creative and informative. Think about reasons why people travel to this country—are those related to the weather? Are there any nifty legends of myths associated with the weather and the inhabitants of this country? Have any weather incidents or phenomena had drastic effects ion the people of this country?
